Becoming a foster family in Barbados means providing a safe, caring home for a child in need through the Child Care Board. Applicants are approved, supervised and supported by the Board and must be willing to accept training. Holding a current first-aid and CPR certificate is widely expected as part of caring for a child in your home.

Foster care in Barbados is a partnership between the Child Care Board and an approved individual or couple; prospective carers are assessed and must be willing to accept training and supervision. While the Board's published requirements centre on the applicant's suitability and the home assessment, a recognized first-aid and CPR certificate is commonly expected so a carer can respond to common emergencies — injuries, choking, cardiac arrest — including CPR for children and infants.
Where required, the certificate is recognized by the Child Care Board and kept current through periodic renewal. It is one part of caregiver readiness and is in addition to — not a substitute for — the home study, background checks and the parenting skills the Board looks for.
